Assistant Instructor

What is our Assistant Instructor course like?

The IDC consists of two sections, the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. This structure allows you to divide the course into two blocks for easier scheduling if you need it. However, you may prefer to do the two parts together, completing the full IDC in 10 days. The first part of the Instructor Development Course (IDC) is the Assistant Instructor course. This course provides you with additional experience as a professional and teaches you the Diver Education System.

You will be qualified to:

Teach knowledge development presentations (in the classroom) under the indirect supervision of an Instructor.

Evaluate the surface exercises of the Open Water Diver course (under the indirect supervision of an Instructor).

Teach the Buoyancy Mastery specialty course.
Z
Teach the Project AWARE specialty course.
Z

Direct Discover Scuba experiences.

Z

Teach Emergency first Response courses after successfully completing the Emergency First Response Instructor Course.

PREREQUISITES

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • 60 logged dives (with experience in night, deep and navigation diving).
  • Proof of CPR and First Aid training within the last 24 months.
  • Open water – Seminars, rescue evaluation and candidate presentations.

WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF

  • Independent study – Knowledge reviews, tests, classes and presentations
  • Confined waters – Review and evaluation of techniques, seminars and presentations
